Hi,
we have dug out the glorious Napoleonics this week for a series of warm-up games before a trip our annual trip to the Wargames Holiday centre.
This one was a tiddler featuring only about fifteen units per side. We ran out an Austrian Division in Four brigades against a Division comprising French & Saxons in three brigades.
We've not played GdA this year so went through every stage of game play with meticulous care. It plays with a dreamy simplicity allowing you make those all important command decisions not get bogged down in rulesy nonsense. The rules also deliver believable results & reward historic tactics & deployment. This really inspired us, so next week we'll add some more units to the mix & play something a bit more interesting & with luck I'll report back here for you.

Our testing ground - we only used the main table not the two rear boards. |
|
The Austrian left comprising a light cavalry brigade in support of an infantry brigade comprising
3 x 32 Grenzers |
|
The dashing Brigadier and ADC in the uniform of the Hessen Homburg Hussars. |
|
Schwartzenberg's Uhlans. These are all from Chris's collection. |
|
The "Giant Killers". Hessen Homburg Hussars. |
|
French Cavalry. 22nd Regiment of Dragoons. |
|
The Saxon infantry Brigade advance on it's objective.
Note Brigadier with his personal supply of schnapps. Hic!
All from Tony's collection. |
As I said next week we'll scale things up & nail down the rules before our trip to see Mark Freeth at the WHC along with all the usual suspects. I promise you a report on that game for sure! Probably...
Best wishes, JJ

ReplyDeleteMe too, I hope it lasts! We've been knocking about with 40k and the new Titans game plus our slowly progressing "project". All good fun but not quite the same as Napoleonics...
