Shiny new toys in the kitchen!

This evening Mrs warpaintjj is at the Queens Head watching local ukulele phenomenon The Mother Pluckers. Yes an all female band playing to an all female audience as every male in the village is watching football - England v Russia I think. The little miss warpaintjj's are nowhere to be seen & I'm not looking for them. I have no interest in football, (except that Wales won!) so this quiet time in the house gave me a chance to unpack a few parcels which have been arriving over the past few weeks. I hooked out a sharp knife, some bases & glue from somewhere & made this...

Murawski Polish line battalion. Some are in campaign dress which I like the idea of more than the reality.
The command sets are excellent, especially the sapper. Painted by Barry Hill.

More Murawski Poles this time the first of two Vistula Legion battalions.

Same battalion different angle. I love the kinky boots with tassles, that's how to dress for war & imminent death.

More Vistula Legion - these are bound for the Peninsular. Fabulous sapper with carbine & amazing beard, he's no hipster.
Barry Hill brushwork again, he's cracked the yellow.

The Gordons.

I picked these up on ebay & am convinced that Barry Hill painted them as they look a lot like Rich's which he painted & were based to Barry's style too. Let me know old chap.

Victrix plastics very well painted, I love the bonnets & kilts, socks & faces.
More Scots foote this time the Black Watch.
Those pipes & drums must have made a terrible cacophony on the battlefield , pretty scary too.

Painting once again by Barry Hill I am sure. Picked these up on ebay for £50, not bad for 30 models, assembled & well painted, just needed rebasing.
The flags & flag poles have been removed to be replaced with steel poles & GMB flags.

The 42nd - Black Watch.

Black Watch & The Gordons glued down ready for sand, grit, flock, tufts, new flags & gloss varnish.

Bavarian light cavalry by Wargames Foundry. These are painted by Tony Laughton who is getting my "Bright is Right" mantra nailed down, that green is excellent. Gloss varnish required.

The weird basing requires some explanation. Wargames Foundry make some stunning models, basically early Perry Twin sculpts, BUT the horses were tiddly, proper Thelwell ponies - not gurt warhorses! So by raising the height of the miniature by 2mm to 4mm on top of the base they fit in very well alongside the bigger Elite, Perry & Front Rank cavalry.

More Brits heading for Spain - speak slowly & loudly - they'll understand.
Nice painting from Barry Hill here, well picked out detail on the tunics.

These are Perry plastics beautifully painted for me by Barry Hill, more "Bright is Right".
Next time I want super silver sabres, think chrome.

I love the browns on these horses & the sideburns on the troopers.
I have already sent another 12 out to Barry bringing the regiment up to 24 plus 24 KGL Hussars. Regiments of twelve are useless, don't know what I was thinking - sorry.

Some much needed fire power for the Allies in Spain & Portugal. Elite Miniatures British 9lb foot battery.
Elite do proper cannons - Big Bangers!

These are excellently painted by their sculptor; owner & proprietor of Elite Miniatures Pete Morbey. Pete also painted a RHA battery for me but I ran out of of bases so they'll have to wait. A  Spanish battery is heading my way too;
"Patience grasshopper!"

So I got these beauties glued down by about 11pm & set off to fetch Mrs warpaintjj from the Mother Pluckers, she wasn't too pissed (US readers - pissed means drunk in the UK) but certainly not traffic friendly. Now I need to persuade Chris to help me base them & I need to order some flags from GMB.

Hope you like these, the Scots & Brits should see action later this year, the Poles & Bavarians will appear in the 1809 campaign which is hotting up as we speak. Please comment as the painters always appreciate positive feedback.

Best wishes,

Jeremy

Getting into action might take a while except for the Bavarians, but we'll try something Peninsular again later in the year.

    1. They are a clever bunch James.
The kitchen is now clear of toys as their presence is bound to arouse a bad response from the four ladies I share a home with, let's call it a tactical withdrawal...
