Welcome to Marauder Moments - a chronicle of the Mortimer Street Marauders; the games we play, the rules we use, the figures we play with and the scenery they fight over. Hope you enjoy these pages and maybe call back to catch up with our escapades.

Update & belated Happy New Year!

Happy New Year - How's 2021 treating you?

Christmas was excellent in our household! Best wishes for 2021 to everyone.

My absence on Marauder Moments means I have some catching up to do. The Flutzen batrep is being written today so will follow this post soon. The massive basing project we began is getting there so our next Napoleonic game will feature more new kit & possibly the appearance of a new army - Tzarist Russian bully boys! Significant reinforcements for the French are nearly with the painters so further expansions will happen with the collection this year.

Not being able to play in person or visit Marauder HQ has left me to explore other games & periods which have always tickled my fancy. I'll run through them for your information. (Marauder Moments will remain over overwhelmingly a Napoleonic big battle blog).

Ancients have always been a good pick up period to game & may be again. We used to play both 15mm & 28mm, variously with WAB & DBX. I picked up the well regarded "To the Strongest" & Gripping Beast's "Swordpoint" rules & lists. Neither really rocked my boat but after discussions with the Marauders WAB might get revisited using the excellent & growing plastic 28mm ranges. Who knows?

These gave us hours of fun & cripplingly drunken weekends away...

I like a bit of naval action from time to time... sounds rather vulgar when put like that! I have a collection of tiny tiny Pacific WW2 ships & some even tinier Napoleonic ships too but haven't played enough, in both cases the rules & minis didn't rock my boat. I have taken the plunge buying "Victory at Sea" & "Black Seas" by Warlord Games. The USN & IJN are painted & solo games are underway on my new sea mat! The excellent Napoleonic models look somewhat daunting but I'll have a go. JJ Wargames blog tipped me into this after watching his excellent batreps on YouTube and his tutorials on rigging etc. Both games can be played in an evening without recourse to vast tabletops & weeks of game play.

I'll do a separate post on this even just to show off my newly painted ships.
Yes, I painted something! Quite a lot of something infact.

I'm late to the party with this game which means that the full ranges are now available unlike Victory at Sea which has had a slow start thanks to Covid I guess.

In the same vein of pick up games Adeptus Titanicus is still of providing plasma & laughs. It's very well supported with new releases & fine content online. We'll keep up playing this without doubt. The same cannot be said of 9th Edition 40k which has just left us cold! We have extensive painted collections & mountains of scenery which now seem somewhat redundant!

Adeptus Titanicus. Big red robot with BFG's.

Of course I wait with some excitement & apprehension for news of  "Warhammer: The Old World". This could be so good or so bad for us oldies. Fingers crossed GW can pull this off.

My hope for 2021 is that we can play more than ever. The big Napoleonic club games can continue & we can also squeeze in a second game some weeks, hopefully of one of these other systems. Solo play remains an option until we can meet up & boozy Zoom meetings keep us "talking bollocks" at factor 10, which is good.

I'd be interested to hear what everyone else is discovering & planning for 2021.

Stay safe, very best wishes,

Jeremy
